You will be hard pressed to find that facility anywhere in Spain or the U.K. for that matter.

Its hilarious that even the booster seats can’t be enrorced by police in the U.K. because it is illegal for an officer of the law to measure a child!!!!

I’ve travelled many times in Spanish taxi’s being overloaded, too many passengers, kids in the back etc.

Actually, Spain was one of the first countries to have these laws applicable, I remember back in ‘94 children travelling in taxis were subject to E.U. law of seatbelts and riding in the rear.

Its up to you, personally I’d take my own, (inconvienient I know) Spanish road safety is amongst the worst in Europe.

For the hassle…? come on you know its better to bring your own.

I travel extensively all over the world. Nowhere in my travels have a seen a taxi that provided a car-seat for infants.

Spain was one of the last countries in Europe that mandated seat-belts in the rear seats. Most taxis on the road now do have rear seat seat-belts. They don’t seem to get a lot of use and some of them are in a deplorable state of cleanliness.

If you want your child to be safe, bring your car-seat. In most cases you can use it on the flight as well, providing added protection for your child. When you get to the airport, just reject any taxi that doesn’t have rear seat-belts or has belts in unacceptable condition. The taxi dispatcher (and driver) may give you some grief but you do have the right to reject a cab that you do not feel is safe for you and your child.

Many of the airport taxis are Mercedes, especially at Madrid. They all have rear seat-belts, even the older ones, as do most other European brands such as Fords, Opels, VWs, Peugeots, Citroens, etc. Only the older Seats will likely be missing the rear belts and there aren’t a lot of them left on the road today — their crap quality actually helps you there.
